vs Peter Manfredo Jr II
05.15.2005
Walking up to the ring I felt ready to go to war. I
knew I wasn't going to be as sharp as I was with Ahmed, because it was
too soon after that fight. Never the less, I knew deep in my heart I
was going to win. When Peter came up to the ring he looked more
confident than he did in our first fight. I had an idea that Peter was
going to try and box me so my plan was to hit the body as much and as
hard as I could for the first two rounds and then go for the head the
last 5 rounds. After the first two rounds I realized Peter had changed
his game plan from our first fight. He was trying to jab me from the
outside, and as soon as I got inside he would clinch me. He was
neutralizing me by holding me when I got close. I didn't get
frustrated. I would hit him with what ever hand he wasn't holding. By
the fifth round I didn't care about moving or anything:. 1. Because I
was too tired; 2. I just wanted to land as many punches as I could. He
had hit me with his best shots and I was never dazed so I knew he
couldn't knock me out. I did feel my face swelling up. I guess either
the punches from Ahmed's fight and Peter's punches were taking a toll
on me, and/or the mouthpiece I was wearing was causing the problem.
Before Ahmed's fight I lost my mouthpiece so I was using an amateur
mouthpiece. The last two rounds I went as hard as I could. Never was I
dazed, but I was hit hard. Many people ask me who hits harder, Ahmed or
Peter....PETER! Who is a better boxer....AHMED! hehehe It would be an
awesome fight between them two...=) Anyway, after the fight Sergio ran
up the ring and told me "You won!", my family thought it also, and many
people in the crowd were giving me the thumbs up in victory. Even
though I hit him more and was putting the pressure on him, I felt he
connected harder punches than me. Unfortunately for me, the judges saw
it his way. =) All I can say is that I was hurt before the fight, I was
tired before the fight, I had the toughest fights before the fight, I
was dealt bad cards before the fight, but that is what being the
Contender is all bout, winning no matter what cards you are dealt. And
Peter won! Congratulations Peter! Like I said before, its good for you
family and for yourself. Say hi to your wife, to your daughter and to
your father for me! Good luck on the 24th
